The 9YF-1700 starts where the other square balers in this series cannot go: at 29.5kW (approximately 40HP) PTO output. This is the power range of compact utility tractors in the 45\u201355HP engine class \u2014 the most common category on small and hobby farms where one tractor handles all field, loader and implement work. At this power level, the 9YF-1900 and 9YF-2200 are technically within minimum specification for some conditions but leave little reserve for heavier windrow sections; the 9YF-1700 at 1,700mm pickup and 1,750kg machine weight is a genuinely comfortable pairing for a 45\u201355HP tractor across standard hay and straw conditions.<\/p>\n

Straw and Crop Residue on Compact Tractors<\/h3>\n

The 9YF-1700 covers the same crop range as the wider models in the 9YF series \u2014 wheat straw, rice straw, corn stover, cotton stalks and all forage grass \u2014 but sized for the 40\u201365HP tractor class. The 1,700mm pickup is adequate for standard windrows from 1.5\u20131.8m combine cutting headers baled directly, or for raked 2m windrows merged to within the pickup width.<\/p>\n
